The haricot bean, also known as the navy bean or cannellini, is a dry, small, white bean that is oval in shape and much smaller than most other beans. Originating from the Americas, the haricot bean is thought to have been used in the 1800s in the US Navy, which is why it is also referred to as a navy bean. The haricot bean is often used in recipes such as soups and stews but is most commonly used to make baked beans.
Haricot beans are a versatile ingredient that can be used to add texture to a variety of recipes and dishes. Haricot beans soak up the flavour from other ingredients in dishes which makes them popular in bean salads, soups, and casseroles. Haricot beans are also popular ingredients in vegan and vegetarian recipes as they are a great source of protein, vitamins, fibre, antioxidants, and folate. They are low in calories and low fat and are thought to have many health benefits, making them the perfect ingredient when dieting or trying to eat healthily.
IQF haricot beans have the same great health benefits, nutrients, mild flavour, and smooth buttery texture as fresh haricot beans, but with the added convenience and longer shelf-life of a frozen product.
Process
Uren’s IQF haricot beans are sourced from our BRC accredited suppliers across the globe and can even be traced back to the field. Once the bean is matured, the haricot bean is harvested, usually after around 60-100 days. Once the beans have been harvested, they are taken back to a factory where they are washed and thoroughly checked for defects. The haricot beans are then flash-frozen at extremely low temperatures to prevent the formation of ice crystals, lock in freshness, and to maintain a free-flowing product.
Shelf Life: 24 Months
