Each year, the 21st of March is a day to celebrate the unique contributions of people with Down Syndrome.
This year, the focus is on inclusion, and how we can create inclusive communities that work together to support individuals with Down Syndrome and their families.
There are many ways you can get involved. Here are just a few ideas:
1 Rock your Socks!
Wear odd socks, bright socks, long socks .. any socks at all… The socks are representative of chromosomes and wearing interesting socks is a really fun and colourful way to share our individuality and celebrate that we are all unique.
2 Advocate for inclusion.
Stand up for the rights of people with Down Syndrome. Speak out against discrimination and work to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in the community.
3 Learn more about organisations that help.
There are likely many organisations in your community that support individuals with Down Syndrome.
For us at Uren, Petty Pool is an organisation that is close to our hearts. Petty Pool is a Vocational College and Outdoor Centre based in Cheshire and is a specialist provider for young adults aged 16-25 with learning disabilities. The college provides every learner with an effective and enjoyable educational experience that supports them to reach their full potential.
