The Tour of Britain, known as the Ovo Energy Tour of Britain, is a multi-stage cycling race which takes place across British roads, in which competitors’ race across Great Britain to complete the race in the fastest time. The annual cycling race dates back to 1945, and has carried numerous different names such as the ‘Milk Race’ and ‘Kellogg’s Tour of Britain.
The Tour of Britain kicked off on September 7th in Glasgow city centre in Scotland and will conclude September 14th in Manchester’s Deansgate. This year’s race covers approximately 1250 kilometres and is split into eight stages.
Today was stage five or ‘The Wirral Stage’ and lucky for us the cyclists passed right past the Uren headquarters! This race starts and ends in Birkenhead Park, where fans could witness the riders completing their final laps of the circuit. This 108-mile stage is aimed at helping celebrate Wirral’s year as the Liverpool City Region’s Borough of Culture, and showcases many beautiful parts of the Wirral.
Dylan Groenewegen triumphed at this stage as he sprinted to win the races first-ever Wirral stage, he has now made it to three victories in five days. Stage 6 takes place tomorrow in Pershore.
