Four friends, who have known one another for over forty years, have come together to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Working for Uren in our accounts department, Maura Evans and her friends are raising money to help support their good friend and her family as they battle against cancer. With Covid-19 restrictions preventing their planned Macmillan Mighty Hike from going ahead, these friends decided to do something different instead - hike more than 11 miles along the beautiful Lagan Towpath, near Belfast.
With support from friends, family and colleagues, they have raised over £1,500 to date.
The Mighty Hikes are among Macmillan Cancer Support's biggest fundraising events, helping to raise vital funds to provide expert advice and support service for people affected by cancer and campaigning to improve the lives of those living with cancer. Several events have unfortunately been cancelled or postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions.
"After our planned Mighty Hikes event was cancelled, we decided to go ahead with our own walking challenge. Ardent Line of Duty fans, we opted to travel up the Lagan by foot rather than bubble! We are so grateful for any donation, big or small, and we would love to raise as much money as possible. We'd like to express our gratitude to everyone who has donated already" - Maura Evans.
Maura and her friends have also set themselves another challenge - tackle the Giant's Causeway in 2022. They are passionate about their goal and are determined to raise as much money as possible for the charity. All donations will go a long way to helping support Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that provides invaluable care for people with cancer who are going through difficult times.
Uren CSR Programme Leader Stephen Gibbons comments:
"Here at Uren, we're always looking for ways to support our colleagues in their efforts to raise money for charities that have a direct impact on loved ones. We were proud to support Maura and her school friends, who raised an amazing £1,530 for Macmillan Cancer Support. The money raised will go on to support people who need it most. We look forward to your next challenge Maura!"
